Plans by unscrupulous elements to smuggle arms into Jos, Plateau State, was scuttled on Monday when the trailer conveying the arms was intercepted by security officials.  The spokesperson of the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis, STF, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the development to journalists.
Iweha said the taskforce was aware of the transit of the arms, insisting that the arms were illegal.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the arms were transported in a private trailer and was intercepted by a traffic police officer on duty.
A witness stated that the driver of the vehicle transporting the arms refused to be searched by the police and as he tried to escape, had an accident while the trailer broke down at a bridge.
However, the state police public relations officer, Abuh Emmanuel, declined making any comments on the matter, saying he was yet to be briefed on details of the incident.
Meanwhile, the area where the arms-loaded vehicle broke down has been cordoned off by armed soldiers, the STF spokesman disclosed just as road users plying the route are being subjected to intense search of their vehicles.
