AIR FORCE JET LAND CRASHED IN YOLA

A military fighter jet involved in the counter insurgency operations in the North East crashed at the Yola Airport on Wednesday night.
Two pilots involved in the crash have been taken to an Air force military hospital where they are receiving medical attention.

We learnt that the crash was as a result of a burst tyre, which occurred around 8pm on Wednesday night as the fighter jet returning from a military operation tried to land at the run way of the Yola Airport.

The pilots had succeeded in ejecting themselves out of the jet, but they sustained serious injuries in the process.
It took the intervention of air safety officials to put out the flames, which engulfed the aircraft immediately after it crash landed.
Military authorities in Adamawa state, especially the 37 Air force Base Strike Group responsible for the air fleet involved in the counter insurgency operations, declined to comment on the crash, saying they that they do not have the authority to speak on the incidence.

Wednesday’s crash was the second in a fortnight, but no life was lost in both incidents.
One of the airport security operatives who did not want his identity revealed said there were concerns about such incidents at the airport.

He said he saw the crashed jet go up in flames but noted that the emergency response at the airport which had also been improved as a result of recent happenings helped saved the situation.
