PORTLAND, Maine -
Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard said crews were searching for possible missing or distressed mariners near the Isle of Shoals.
Coast Guard officials said someone on the Whiskey Rose sent a distress signal at 7:40 p.m. Sunday.
The person reported the name of the vessel and said it was taking on water. The transmission was then lost, officials said.
Specific details about the Whiskey Rose and who may be on board were not released.
The Coast Guard was able to track the vessel's signal in the direction of the Isle of Shoals.
The islands straddle the Maine-New Hampshire border about six miles out to sea.
Rescue crews from Portsmouth and Cape Cod were looking for the boaters Sunday night and into Monday morning.
Anyone with information about Whiskey Rose or its crew is asked to call the Coast Guard at 207-767-0302.
