A stolen, smashed up SUV is all that's left of a horrific scene in Canarsie. Police say the vehicle was stolen by two men, and the suspect behind the wheel lost control, and mowed down two innocent bystanders - a 57-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman. That woman is now fighting for her life.
Eyewitnesses say the stolen SUV collided with a Honda at the intersection of Avenue K and East 94th Street, before crushing the pedestrians standing on the corner, then crashing into a fence.
"That's fatal, man - you know what I mean? I walk down this sidewalk. That could have been a kid," says Monty Forbes.
Neighbors say the injured man jumped to his feet and screamed for help. The woman who he was with is now in critical condition.
The two pedestrians, and the man in the Honda were rushed to Brookdale Hospital. Both men are in stable condition.
Mangled car parts from the Honda are still at the scene, and the suspects are still on the loose.
"There was (sic) some police officers with dogs going up in that direction, they were sniffing to see what direction they were going," says Canarsie resident Karica Stewart.
A man who owns a surveillance camera says he has video that captured the entire incident - he has only provided the video to police. He says the video shows the two suspects taking off on foot.
