Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam has blamed the recent surge of insecurity in the state on the All Progressives Congress, APC. Suswam who spoke to newsmen On Monday said the ruling party had ensured the proliferation of illegal arms in the state because of their desperation to win elections.
“And I can now imagine that the insecurity situation in Benue was instituted by APC because it was desperate to win the last election but since they said they are going to solve it, fine. The governor needs a secured state in order to operate but that security must not be based on falsehood and deceit.” he said.

The former Governor faulted the amnesty programme of the present administration, saying it was politicised, skewed and bound to fail.
“Now the present government has brought amnesty but the amnesty is skewed. There is no single APC person who has been called to drop arms. And so far as the that so-called amnesty is skewed, it is bound to fail.” Suswam recounted some of the measures he told to ensure the security of lives and properties when he was Governor, some of which the present administration has adopted.
He said “That is what informed me to disband Okada and limit their movement to 8:00 pm because the security situation was palpable and I decided to employ proactive measures. I formed ‘Operation Zenda’ combined security outfit to enhance security.” he said.
Governor Ortom, however, has said the security of lives and property come first and is the major priority of his administration which would not be used to play politics. Ortom also stated that the amnesty committee headed by the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu was adopting the carrot approach in collecting the arms but would, if need be, use the stick approach at the end if the directive was not fully complied with, stating that those that surrender would rehabilitated and be engaged into meaningful societal ventures.
