According to Punch, Unknown gunmen on Monday evening invaded Gurguzu village, near Maguzawa, an outskirts of Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing four persons while many persons sustained varying degrees of injuries. An eyewitness put the number of those injured at six while another source said the figure was higher than six.
Our correspondent also gathered that the injured victims were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment. Presently, it was gathered that more than 500 people from Gurguzu village were displaced and taking refuge at a primary school in Rigasa.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has sued for peace, urging residents to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses. It said it had launched a manhunt for those who perpetrated the killings.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to newsmen shortly after the state security council meeting held at the Sir. Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna on Tuesday.
He said, “Around 17:50, that is 5:50pm yesterday (Monday), gunmen invaded the village on bikes and killed four farmers.They injured four others and those injured were rushed to the hospital.
“Immediately, we drafted our men to the area, calm has returned and our men are patrolling the whole place. Contrary to what is being circulated on the social media, this is what actually happened.”
Also, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Igabi Local Government, Jabir Khamis, said no fewer than 500 persons from the village had been displaced and “government is taking care of them.”
