SAMPSON COUNTY-- Sampson County sheriff's deputies said multiple people were shot and stabbed during an early Sunday morning fight at the Lakewood Country Club in Salemburg.
The shooting call came in around 2:30 a.m., deputies said. Responding deputies saw several groups fighting when they arrived at the country club. One deputy sustained minor injuries and is being treated at Sampson Regional Medical Center for a cut to the arm.
Another deputy's vehicle was struck by people trying to leave the scene, but that deputy was not hurt. Authorities said three people were shot, one person was stabbed, and two people were beaten.
A spokesperson with the Sampson County Sheriff's Office said one of the victims was supposed to be airlifted to WakeMed with serious injuries, however due to his condition the airlift was cancelled. He was taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center for emergency surgery.
Two of the other gunshot victims are being treated at Sampson Regional; a stabbing victim and two physical assault victims were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. The victims names have not yet been released.
According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, deputies discovered several groups fighting upon their arrival and attempted to break up the fights. One deputy received minor injuries during the fight, and a deputy's vehicle was struck by people trying to leave the scene.
