POWER TUSSLE: THE REASON BUHARI AND TINUBU RELATIONSHIP BECOMES MORE WORSE

The reports emerged that there is a boiling feud between President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu. Independent reports that it is already causing disloyalty amongst assistants of the
president.
Some sources say that Buhari’s aides who are loyal to Tinubu, who played crucial roles in the formation of the ruling party and president’s coming to power, are not happy with the treatment being meted to the former Lagos state governor by power brokers in Aso Villa. Even Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is one of Tinubu’s trustworthy aidess, is reportedly always kept in the dark “until the last minute about some key decisions in the presidency”. While key officers of the APC have dismissed the existence of a conflict between party’s leader and the president, those with keen knowledge of developments in the party said both politicians have decided to keep each other at arm’s length as the feud continues. President Buhari recently visited Osun state on a one-day working visit as part of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state. But Tinubu didn’t join the president.
--> He was also absent at the Edo state APC governorship grand finale campaign rally in Benin City, where Buhari campaigned for the party’s aspirant, Godwin Obaseki. A principal officer in the South West said that there is an ongoing attempt by those who have the ears of the president “to continue to widen the gulf between the president and Tinubu. The reason for this is what is unclear to us”. He added that efforts to reduce Tinubu’s power in the party commenced shortly after the death of Abubakar Audu, late governorship aspirant of the party in Kogi state.
Another APC source, who confirmed that the relationship between the duo is not friendly, said the crisis may have commenced during the early stage of the government when Lai Mohammed (former national publicity secretary of the APC) said the president is not the national leader of the party.

Answering who the national leader of the party is, Mohammed, who is now the Minister of Information had noted that Buhari is a product of the party and not the party’s leader. The media assistants of the country’s leader declined to make comments on the matter.
