The Karu Abattoir may just be waiting for the bull dozers deployed by the FCT Agric and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS).
Karu Abattoir has been adjudged unfit and unhealthy as the environment has not passed the cleanliness test of the ARDS of the FCT.
Worst among their sins, apart from the environment, is the harbouring of miscreants and suspected drug peddlers as well as consumers within the premises of the abattoir.

The ARDS embarked of the clean up of all abattoirs in the FCT which commenced with the Kubwa Abattoir last week. Acting Secretary, FCT ARDS, Dr. Musa Aliyu told journalists in his office that the next port of call is the Karu Abattoir, but unlike the Kubwa Abattoir where compliance with their directive averted any show of force and demolition exercise, the case of Karu may be different as observation has shown that compliance in Karu has not been satisfactory.
According to Dr. Aliyu, it was discovered that most of the abattoirs were dirty and harbouring illegal activities, he said a timetable was drawn to ensure FCTA officials go round these abattoirs and slaughter slabs to carry out the clean up

exercise, which was communicated to all the stakeholders involved.
?We discovered that around the abattoirs all sort of illegal activities are going on, criminals are hiding there, illicit drugs are being peddled and prostitution are even going there. We felt that this trend must be stopped.
