4. Air Bag Maker Takata Files For Bankruptcy
A major manufacturer of air bags used on cars in the U.S. and throughout the world filed for bankruptcy in its home base of Japan on Monday. The company, Takata, continues to navigate the largest recall in U.S. history to fix a defect blamed for at least 16 deaths worldwide.The scandal has brought more than $1 billion in penalties and costs against the company. Takata's air bags are used on vehicles for nearly all of the world's major automakers, affecting about one-quarter of all vehicles on the road in the U.S. as of two years ago, according to one estimate.
5. Winds Expected To Fan Wildfires In The Southwest
Firefighters battling blazes across the Southwest expected winds to further whip up flames on Monday. The nation's biggest fire is burning in southern Utah, about 250 miles south of Salt Lake City. The Brian Head Fire had swept through more than 40,000 acres as of Sunday, destroying 13 homes as more than 15,000 evacuated the area.The fire was only 8% contained Sunday as firefighters braced for the return of high winds. Stronger winds will create red flag conditions on Monday," the state's fire information overview warned.
