70 YEARS OLD MAN DIES IN FIRE OUTBREAK

A man in his 70s has died in hospital following a two-alarm fire in Mississauga.
Emergency crews were called to a residence on Fifth Line West, near Dundas Street and Erin Mills Parkway just before noon.

Paramedics say the man was rushed to hospital without vital signs.
Peel police confirmed to 680 NEWS the man later died in hospital.

A neighbour, who gave his name as Robin, says he called 911 and ran toward the house when the smoke started but didn’t get a response from the elderly man he says lives alone inside the house.

Mississauga Platoon Chief Alan Hills praised the neighbour for his quick action.
“That was a tremendous help. Whenever we can have our residents be able to call 911 when our residents are unable to because of their condition inside, that went a long way to be able to help get the crews on scene,” said Hills. “We’re always very pleased that our residents are involved in community safety.”
Hills said the bulk of the fire was contained in the basement of the house.
The Ontario Fire Marshals office has been called in to investigate and determine a cause for the blaze.
