JUST-IN: Mark Steps Down for Tambuwal, Sets to Join Zone C Senate Race for 6th Term

The Senator representing Benue south senatorial district and aspirant for the office of president under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. David A.B. Mark, has stepped down for incumbent Sokoto State Governor, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal who is set to emerge presidential candidate of the opposition PDP in the forthcoming general elections in 2019.

Announcing his withdrawal from the race at Elekahia stadium, venue of the ongoing PDP convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in the early hours of Saturday, Mark enjoined the three other aspirants, Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to follow suit in other to ensure a rancour free primaries that would produce a sellable candidate for the party ahead of the 2019 general elections in the country.

You may recall that the leadership of the PDP and other bigwigs have been meeting over the position of the party to produce a consensus candidate for the party ahead of the 2019 general elections. Senator David Mark is the 4th presidential aspirant who have now stepped down for the Sokoto State governor who appears to have been anointed by the PDP leaders as its presidential candidate. Tambuwal rejoined the PDP in August this year to pursue his presidential aspiration after leaving the party as House of Representatives Speaker in November 2014 to contest for governor of Sokoto State through the All Progressives Congress, APC.

By this development, according to an aide to the 5th term senator and former president of the senate who pleaded anonymity for not authorized to speak on the matter, the high ranking Senator David Mark will now go back to his senatorial district and exercise his right of first refusal to contest the Zone C Senate seat for the 6th term.

"His Idoma people have been calling and begging him to come and represent them in the senate for the 6th term" he added
The source said it has been arranged during the midnight meeting in Port-Harcourt that Mark should go back to the Senate and become its President to stay politically relevant till 2023 when the PDP hopes to hand him the ticket to run for office of the President when Tambuwal will be completing his promised one term in office.

Earlier, our source said Mark hesitated about the 2023 presidential race, saying that it would be the turn of the Igbos and anything short of that arrangement would send the PDP oblivion but he was however assured by Mr. Tambuwal who told him of playing the Igbos out when the time comes.

It may interest you to know that the PDP is yet to announce clear candidates for Saraki's Kwara Central Senatorial District and David Mark's Benue South Senatorial District as both seats have been reserved for the two presidential aspirants to exercise their rights of first refusal should they lose the PDP presidential ticket to another aspirant.
