The Chairman, Bauchi state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Alhaji Habu Gar, has disclosed that no fewer than 190 pensioners have died waiting for the state government to offset some of the backlog of their gratuities amounting to about N14.6 billion from 2011 to date.
Gar, in an interview with newsmen in his office in Bauchi on Saturday, regretted that "though the APC government inherited these backlog of gratuities after eight years of Governor Isa Yuguda’s adminitration, but we had expected that with the bailout released to Bauchi state government amounting to about N 8.6 billion, the government should look into the plight of pensioners and start paying our accumulated N15 billion backlog of arrears to retirees to alleviate our sufferings."
