About 90 shops were on Monday burnt in a major market in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State and property worth billions of naira were destroyed by the inferno on Monday.
Some eyewitnesses, who were at the scene, told our correspondent that the fire started at about 2.30 am.
According to the agent giving us this information, the initial effort trying to quench the fire was to no avail simply because access road to the main market was a nightmare as fire fighters could not as fast got to the scene.
Before now, a lot of fire incidents have being taking place here but this very one is the worst of its kind, says Haruna Hammanfuro, the executive secretary, Adamawa state emergency management agency.
