The federal government has revealed the reason behind the hike in the price of petrol. It said that it's for the benefit of all Nigerians that as time goes by, everything will fall in place in favour of all Nigerians. The Federal Government on Monday said that it had no choice than to make the price of petrol free in the country. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja, justified the increase in the price of petrol to N145 in order to tackle the present unstable
economic wind in the country.
In a statement during news conference in Abuja, Alhaji Lai Muhammed said, “There is no subsidy to remove because no provision was made for subsidy in the 2016 budget. Last year, the government paid out N1 trillion Naira in subsidy, and that’s one sixth of this year’s budget. We can’t afford to pay another N1 trillion Naira in subsidy.”
