BREAKING NEWS: SIX DEAD, 12 INJURED IN KOGI AUTO CRASH


No fewer than six passengers were killed and 12 others injured in a motor accident along Anyigba-Ajaokuta road on Saturday. An eye witness account told our correspondent that the accident, which involved a Toyota bus with registration number MKD 841 XA and A Golf car with registration number LKJ 335 CV, occurred at Ojuwo-Olijo in Ofu LGA of Kogi State. An Assistant Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mrs. Amobi Modupe Stanley, who confirmed the accident, said it occurred at about 1.15pm on
Saturday.


She said the FRSC’s men arrived the scene of the accident at about 1.59pm for rescue operations, adding that six of the passengers were confirmed dead on the spot while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries. According to her, the dead passengers have been deposited at Rima Hospital, Anyigba, while the injured are receiving treatments at the same hospital.

 Amobi, who attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous overtaking, advised drivers to be patient while driving on the highway, especially this festive season. Meanwhile, men of the Nigerian Police Force, Benue State Command, on Saturday arrested four suspected militants who ambushed them at Ngibo in Katsina/Ala Local Government Area of Benue State after several hours of exchanging gun fire, The source checks have revealed. Checks revealed further that the officers who were attached to the Special Anti-robbery Squared, code named, “Operation Zenda” and “SARS”were in the area in search of suspected militants who were fingered in the assassination of Governor Samuel Ortom’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Security, Mr. Denen Igbana, on May 20 this year.


 Sources revealed further that the attack on the detached team was predicated on information given to the said militants by a police officer, described as a traitor, named Kenneth Nguuma. Nguuma is a Sergeant, who it was furthered gathered, acted as an informant to the militant group.

Investigations revealed that the police officer allegedly offered information to his benefactors at all times. He has been detained at the state Police Headquarters in Makurdi. The Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the attack on the Police Special Squared in the area. We learnt that the men of the Force were attacked by suspected kidnappers, saying that four persons were arrested in the process of the gun battle.
