Herdsmen militia kill soldier, injure 2 in Benue

Suspected herdsmen in the early hours of Saturday ambushed military
personnel who were on surveillance in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one and injuring two others.
From the information reaching FRAYOKIT NEWS through our correspondent in BenueState, it was gathered from some locals in the area that the soldiers were patrolling the area on Gbajimba-Iyordye- Akaahena road when they were suddenly ambushed by the herdsmen militia.
The herdsmen militia, who according to a source were heavily armed and many in number immediately engaged the military personnel in a gun duel upon sighting them and killed one while two others who were injured have been conveyed to the Airforce Military Hospital in Makurdi for medical attention.
An eye witness said the development led to a heavy deployment of combined troops, including Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC and Nigerian Air Force to forestall further attack in the area.
The source said two helicopters were seen hovering around the operation camp of soldiers at LGEA Primary School, Mbabegha for a long time before moving to the scene of attack.
As a result, residents of the area, particularly women and children, according to the source, fled the area with their belongings for fear of being killed.
It would be recalled that a few months ago, soldiers on surveillance along Benue/Nasarawa borders were attacked by herdsmen militia, leading to the death of two.
