THIS IS IMPUNITY: BUHARI, OSINBAJO SHOULD DECLARE THEIR ASSETS PUBLICLY AND REVEAL HOW MUCH HE HAS RECOVERED FROM THE BAD LEADERS' LOOT.....ODINKALU

My people are perishing for lack of knowledge--Nigeria is suffering for lack of trusted leaders and favourable leadership in the country. In an interview with Channels Television on Sunday night, the former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, says President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have not done well by not declaring their assets publicly.



 This is to say that leadership is by knowing, delivering and listening to the people you are leading. Odinkalu said, it is compulsory that leaders should fulfil their campaign promises to declare their assets, adding that transparency was a requisite to fighting corruption effectively.

--> He said that he doesn't see any reason why they refuse to declare their assets. He further added, "I have to say I disagree and continue to disagree with the way in which their asset declarations were managed. “I don’t think they have kept faith with their campaign promise to publish their assets and I do think that it is necessary in order to fight corruption effectively.


 “The President is an individual and he is not going to fight corruption by himself. My view has always been that the most a President could do is to provide leadership.”


 Prof. Chidi Odinkalu also said that, "The problem we have with corruption in Nigeria is actually impunity. It’s about institutions and the application of rules to people. That’s where we fail because Nigeria is a very stratified and very hierarchical society.”

 According to him, the most important thing is that we focus on rebuilding our country into something that we all (all Nigerians) can be proud of and also a country that works for its citizens. It is a well known fact that the more people you are leading trust your leadership the more support they give in strategizing your administrative work. Nigerians are agitating to know how much the Mr. President has recovered so far from all the looots and stolen money by the ex-leaders. He added also, that it would be better for his administration and also to the benefit of all Nigerians if he (Mr. President) can declare his assets and make known to the public how much he has received so far from Abacha loot and other bad leaders.
